Our grandparents and great-grandparents enjoyed the beauty of this hardy, long-blooming plant. From 1900 through the 1940s, as some have put it, "Phlox Ruled"! The birdhouse has a Victorian violet hue (Painted Lady), to go with the Victorian-style metal design. The art has colors of coral peach, green, cobalt blue, violet, and crimson magenta. The butterfly near the white phlox, as well as the one flying, are Baltimore Checkerspots, wingspan about two and a half inches (6 cm). The large butterfly on the crimson flowers is a female Spicebush Swallowtail, with wingspan of three to four inches (9 cm). The decorative scrollwork and flowers were inspired by the garden of Mary Lynch, during a garden tour in my small town. See Collection number 229354 for more fabric panels.
