crackle.
These circles were created with a digital technique inspired by real batik. I have been a dyer for many years and wanted to see if I could make batiks using digital tools. I start by painting the "wax" motifs on paper. I think paint helps create the line quality that looks like wax, more than drawing it with a brush in Photoshop. I scan my painted shapes and then add the "dye" colors with paintbrushes in Photoshop. Finally, I layer the whole design with a batik style crackle, made from a photograph of a marble countertop. Scale: Each circle is about 3.5 inches.
